The Ladies at Home

Terry Olson

2022

30” x 30”

Cotton warp, wool weft

Every single thing I have ever woven can be traced directly back to Audrey Moore. She taught me how to weave tapestry on a Navajo-style loom. She taught me so much more.

Audrey lived in a wood-clad house in the foothills of Mt. Hood. Guests were often invited to sit on the large, outside, covered porch. Audrey’s series of women’s dresses, The Ladies, was woven in her basement studio. My tapestry, The Ladies at Home, woven in my own basement studio, depicts her house.

On this day the ladies and little Daisy are enjoying a summer afternoon at Audrey’s home, partying on the porch and the lawn. A couple of those ladies look a lot like a couple of Audrey’s ladies, others are just visiting.
