Nancy O'Halloran
Nancy has many memories of beautiful hand-made sweaters her grandmother gave her each Christmas, of snuggling into soft blankets she made for special birthdays. Nancy knits and had done a bit of weaving but a beginning class at Damascus Fiber Arts School in 2022 inspired her.
Tapestry art feels so creative to Nancy. She's more tactile and auditory than visual and designing tapestries has forced Nancy to explore visual media. The only “pattern” in tapestry is the one she designs. She loves the challenge, and the endless possibilities. She continues to be inspired by and learn from the
many talented weavers around her.

Artist Statement
Turning yarn into fabric has always seemed like a kind of magic to me. We use yarn to create the physical structure of a tapestry. Yarn has color and texture. I love color, especially the way it changes in response to light and the colors around it. But I am most drawn to things I can touch or hear. Currently I’m interested in capturing non-visual experiences in the visual and tactile fabric of tapestry. We can’t see wind, but we feel it every day. Music has color and texture as well as emotional qualities. I want to express the power of these and other invisible forces in our lives.
