Janet Dorow

After retiring as a research assistant in 2002, Janet became a master gardener and developed a strong interest in native and non-native plants and flowers. Sparked by a latent and sporadic interest in floor loom weaving in 2009, she decided to explore tapestry weaving at Damascus Fiber Arts School via a workshop with Archie Brennan in hopes of eventually combining her love of plants with tapestry. Without an artist background, the going has been tough but the supportive atmosphere at the school under the direction of Audrey Moore and Terry Olson makes the ongoing enterprise positive and happy.

Artist Statement

My desire is to more fully explore and continue to enjoy the learning process and just plain fun of tapestry weaving. The sense of community when working alone or with others is of utmost importance. Achieving a sense of pleasure and satisfaction with my own work is a continuing goal.
